A cabinet under the counter

A customer asked if we could make a cabinet to fit under a worktop in their utility room. We spent half an hour so taking measurements and discussing what the customer wanted, but it was becoming clear that what they wanted wasn’t really clear in their mind. This isn’t unusual when dealing with bespoke commissions – function often comes before form, and this is hopefully where our experience comes in.

After a quick tour of the rooms of their home we found a bathroom cabinet which had belonged to her mother. It was fairly simple, early 20th Century with simple panelled doors and made from pine. We decided to use this as the inspiration and based our plan for the new cabinet on this. We tried to match the materials, design and overall feel of the new piece to the old one.

Just over a week later we returned with a finished cabinet that just slid under the existing counter, flush with the edges and hiding any gaps.
